Job Openings: Groupon Freelance Writers

Submitted By: babybarnplus on 2/25/2011

Click Here! Freelancers are the ronin of the writing world, splitting the skulls of readers with word-swords wielded for the highest bidder. Groupon's editorial department is looking for a few writers with the hardened souls of mercenaries and the tender diction of secret diarists.

The one and only qualification for this gig is that you can write well, and in their voice. They have housebroken their house style and need writers who can produce it consistently, with regard to both structure and style.

If you are not familiar with the Groupon voice, please spend at least a fortnight reading their features before you apply. You might also want to take a gander at what the keystrokes of The New York Times and The Atlantic have said about their writing.

Writers who are vetted into their freelancing pool have a steady stream of work and can brandish their quills from anywhere. Freelancers can do no less than 10 and no more than 20 write-ups per week, compensated at $22 per write-up (so potential comp is up to $440 per week). Within that range, they can choose the workload that fits their schedule. Expect to devote at least one hour to each write-up.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a knack for their voice in his or her sample, and will also be able to point to hard evidence of the ability to self-direct and work under deadline.

Applicants whose initial sample catches their eye and tugs at their heart strings will be provided with a training video and personal feedback before being asked to complete one to four sample write-ups compensated at the freelancer rate.

To apply:

After clicking "Apply Now", you must submit a resume, Groupon write-up sample, and cover letter. Please follow these instructions closely:

1. PASTE, rather than upload, your resume and cover letter into the fields provided.
2. In the resume field, paste your Groupon writing sample below your resume.
3. AFTER submitting your application, take their online application quiz by visiting www.gr.pn/quizzles. You must take the test within 24 hours of applying to receive consideration.

This offer is only valid for residents of:

  • United States
